Consultation on Supervision of Trainees closing soon

Currently, the terms and conditions require that Certifying Practitioners who supervise Trainees holding Limited Certificates must ensure that the Trainee works in their direct presence, or that of another nominated person during the first 12 months that they hold a Limited Certificate.

The Board is proposing to remove this requirement from the terms and conditions applying to Certifying Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers. This means that direct presence supervision would no longer be required during the first 12 months that a Trainee holds a Limited Certificate.

Instead, it would be up to the Certifying Practitioner to decide what level of control and direction is required depending on what task the Trainee is being asked to do.

The Board wants to hear the views of the industry before deciding whether to proceed with this proposal.
