Accreditation is the process that ensures all Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs) looking to deliver and assess The Skills Organisation’s unit standards have the right resources (people, equipment and facilities) to do it successfully. To be accredited TEOs must gain Consent to Assess.Consent to Assess involves an evaluation of the ability of a TEO to deliver and assess specific unit standards registered on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.

Submitting an application

There are five steps to gaining consent to assess with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). We can help you through the early stages of the application process before you work directly with the NZQA.

  1. The first step is to seek support from The Skills Organisation as your ITO. If you meet our industry requirements, you’ll receive a letter from us supporting your application to NZQA.
  2. Complete a Consent to Assess form and supply details of the scope you are intending to cover. To help you, all the domains and unit standards available within our scope of standard setting responsibility can be viewed on the NZQA web site. Download the Consent to Assess form (PDF 109kb)
  3. Provide a copy of your Quality Management System (QMS) document – Your organisation will have a copy of this.
  4. Provide a detailed response to our Consent and Moderation requirements – You can find these on the NZQA website (for details see About Consent and Moderation Requirements section below)
  5. Provide evidence to support your application – please include anything that will assist us in making our decision e.g. evidence of staff qualifications, letters of support from industry etc.

Once you have completed the Consent to Assess form, email the form and all other relevant information to the Consent to Assess Inbox. Once we receive your application and supporting documentation, we’ll advise you on the next steps.

About Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs)

CMRs are developed by standard-setting body for each unit standard and achievement standard registered on the Directory of Assessment Standards. The CMR outlines the specific criteria for consent to assess against standards and national external moderation.

Documents for the following CMRs can be found on the NZQA website (insert the CMR id number below in the search box).
